CONTEMPORARY GARDEN, SHEEN
Designed by GRDN, we were invited to build and plant this lovely garden, to create a wonderful haven for our busy clients in Sheen, South West London.
Dutch clay pavers and Schellevis planks are laid to create a small patio outside the new sliding doors to the kitchen and lead their way down the garden to a patio for dining. This patio is ‘floated’ off the ground, creating a wonderful shadow gap and enclosed by a bespoke metal pergola, now growing with wisteria and a vine.
The paths that lead down the garden are softened by ‘fingers’ of planting running through and injecting a playful air to the space. Two strategically placed multi-stem Prunus serrula play a key role: one placed near the house screens the view straight into the garden from the kitchen; the other placed two-thirds of the way down the garden, divides the space and creates a sense of journey and discovery.
Boundary fences were painted black to help them disappear and to create a dramatic backdrop to the planting. The lush planting in the garden creates a sense of calm and enclosure and two bespoke water features add to the tranquility of the space.
At night, the atmosphere steps up a gear. Low level plant lighting and uplighting of the beautiful ornamental trees, generate a luxurious and glamourous feel.
