Designed by our client, a London architect, we were invited to build and plant this garden in Belsize Park, North West London.

Providing a fabulously strong design, our client wanted to achieve a high- finish garden with lush and layered plating, a planting scheme that would deliver a sense of enclosure in the space to relax and dine.

Two large areas are set out for social gathering – an area for relaxed sofa seating and a dining area with outdoor kitchen. The two spaces are connected by a gently curving path, laid to dark granite plank- paving, interspersed with planting. The outdoor kitchen, by Grillo, is simple and contemporary and sits quietly in the space.

Planting comprises a high proportion of evergreen plants, with soft grasses and loose perennials and ferns to create a scheme with movement and depth in contrasting texture. A collection of trees ferns planted towards the back of the garden delivers a wonderful backdrop to the space, and catch the eye from the property’s first floor balcony.

The garden is lit by subtle lighting as dusk falls, creating a wonderful atmosphere in which to relax.
